"the
costumes by Jesse Shipley are
smashing"
John Stoltenberg
DC Metro Theater Arts

"the object here is not just to titillate but to recognize history. To this end, the show... employs a framing device that creates a sense of time travel: The eponymous cabaret turns out to be a Jazz Age entertainment, haunted not only by Bella Donna but also by the Chanteuse (Jen Bevan), who wears a glittery flapper frock and croons standards. When actors are not engaged in a scene, they sit at tables on the edge of the stage, looking very much the part of patrons at a speakeasy.
If the costumes (designed by Jesse Shipley) and cabaret conceit evoke an era predating our own, so, too, do the performance styles."
Celia Wren

"combined with a simple versatile set... tasteful application of (mostly dim) lighting... and costumes... [by] Jesse Shipely, easily carried the audience back to the Roaring Twenties and then from there to an isolated lighthouse, a country estate, and a halfway house."
Derek Schwabe
MD Theater Guide

"Loved the shameless 1920s style costumes by Jesse Shipley and the freedom with which each of the amazing performers (male and female) flaunted their physical beauty and mental allure."
